The Area Director (AD) cultivates and manages public stakeholder relationships within their region, particularly, but not limited to, DSS, County Commissioner, District Court, MCO, and General Assembly relationships. Working closely with regional CHS staff and the Business Development Team, the AD will set regional relationship management priorities and strategies. The AD is ultimately responsible for the quality of public stakeholder relationships and advancing business opportunities, particularly the CHS Strategic Plan priorities.

Business Development

  • Manages all public stakeholder relationships in the assigned CHS region.
  • Uses data to identify needs and trends, develop business opportunities, and promote CHS programs within the assigned region.
  • Works with the Business Development (BD) team to execute strategies to survey regional public stakeholder satisfaction with CHS and its programs.
  • Works with the BD team to execute strategies to support the procurement of referrals to services within the assigned strategy.
  • Works closely with the BD team and other CHS divisions and staff in order to advance business opportunities for the agency (i.e. Program, Finance, QI, IT, etc.)
  • Works closely with Development staff to establish and strengthen local corporate and foundation relationships to expand CHS programs and services; and supports grant proposals as needed.
  • Works closely with the BD team and Program and Finance staff to identify and address financial/contract risks.
  • Maintain consistent records of stakeholder engagement meetings, proposals, and relationships status. Use meaningful reports that reflect status of business development activities and outcomes.


  • Participate in and contribute to the Joint Budget review process.
  • Manage all county level contract development and renewal negotiations, and resolve contract issues or concerns.
  • Works with the BD, Program and Finance teams to develop financially sustainable business models for CHS programs.


  • Be informed about policy, practice and funding trends that impact our programs, governmental affairs, and advocacy efforts.
  • Participate in local/regional collaborative, networks and work groups to build relationships and advance CHS priorities and strategies.
  • Speak to community groups and set an example for advocacy at the local level.
  • Develop internal training for appropriate groups.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required
  • 5+ years of business development and/or sales and/or human services experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and knowledgeable of donor information systems (Raisers Edge)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities
  • Detail and goal-oriented, with excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent relationship building and relationship management skills
  • Availability to travel is required
  • Maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license, adequate auto insurance, and have access to an operating vehicle in order to attend to CHS business
